xAPI, LRS – The Interview « E-Learning 24/7 Blog

xapi

Today’s post is quite unique since it takes a different path than previous posts.

xAPI and LRS (Learning Record Stores) have been in the news and frankly everywhere within the e-learning industry in the past 1.5 years.

Part of the problem though is that there is a lot of information out there, some of it erroneous in nature and honestly, equally confusing.   In early December, I decided to present the real facts, the real insight and eradicate the confusion.

The challenge was how to do it, since it contains an extensive amount of technical jargon, that cannot be easily removed.

While I am able to provide a variety of insight and details on the subject, I by no means would be a foremost expert on it.

This is where I had an epiphany.

Reach out to someone I know who is not only the best and what he knows, but is the foremost expert on the subject and present a special blog post.

With my journalism background in hand, I contact Aaron Silvers and inquired if he would be interested in doing an interview style post.

This is the interview…

Wax LRS and Zapier

Tracking Twitter mentions

Other services that work with Wax LRS

  • Salesforce.com CRM? Absolutely.
  • Go To Meeting integration? Oh yeah.
  • Twitter mentions, faves, and lists? Yup.
  • Forms for tracking observations? Done.
  • Trello cards and activity? Set it up.

Select the search term you want to track

Since we only want to track Wax LRS mentions, we need to select a search term for this Zap, we enter the @waxlrs Twitter handle.

Every time somebody mentions Wax LRS on Twitter, this Zap will automatically record a new Experience API statement to Wax LRS.

We’d like to track more about the mention as well, like the author and content of the tweet. To do that, we need to map specific Twitter information about the person, tweet, and other info to a new statement…

Email? Sure enough.

Here’s a demo for using Zapier with Wax LRS

Apache Cordova – for building HTML5 offline App with TINCAN support

Apache Cordova is a set of device APIs that allow a mobile app developer to access native device function such as the camera or accelerometer from JavaScript. Combined with a UI framework such as jQuery Mobile or Dojo Mobile or Sencha Touch, this allows a smartphone app to be developed with just HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Using Moodle: Launch externally Tin Can API activities from Moodle and track on any LRS. Compatible with Storyline, Captivate and others!

Hi all,

I’ve just completed a Moodle plug in that lets you launch Tin Can activities from a Moodle course and then track them with any LRS. You don’t need to upload the activities to Moodle – just host them anywhere on the internet. This is compatible with activities implementing the Rustici launch method as described here: https://github.com/RusticiSoftware/launch/blob/master/lms_lrs.md This includes Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate content.
