Upcoming Theme: Elegance from @Moodleman | Moodle News

Julian Ridden is at it again and the prototype is really an amazing looking theme. Essential theme has taken Moodle sites by storm (and I’ve seen more than a few sites adopt and modify it to create a really awesome looking course site) and Elegance could follow closely in its footsteps. The theme has not been officially released but you can follow the thread at Moodle.org and track the progress to date.

A few notes:

The theme is built on Bootstrap 3.0 (the latest framework) and is responsive

It has a cool “tiles” which represent course resources and activities (rather than the standard links)

Something similar to the Moodle 2.7 navigation is included for easy access to user preferences, settings, messages

There’s a redesigned “MyMoodle” page

The Virtual Programming Lab VPL a cool activity for Moodle provides some pretty slick functionality right to Moodle to help with assessing and teaching different programming languages.

  • Recently the VPL was upgraded for Moodle 2.0.  New and improved features include,Now can be used with GroupsBatch evaluation of submissions
  • Backup and restore in Moodle 2.Upgrade from Moodle 1.9 keeping all user information.
  • Statistics of submissions of students
  • The index of VPL activities now shows the number of submissions and submissions not evaluated.
  • Translations to Catalan and Japanese

Supported languages include Ada, C, C++, C#, Fortran, Haskell, Java, Matlab/Octave, Pascal, Perl, PHP, Prolog, Ruby, Scheme, Shell script, SQL and VHDL.

Moodle.org: Moodle 2.6 is now available!

Usability improvements: improved responsive behavior for all types of devices, clean new course editing interfaces, annotation of PDF assignment submissions, improved course management, a more user-friendly text editor, additional name fields, a new course format that lets you make a course out of any single activity, support for non-Gregorian calendars and much more.
  2. Performance improvements: new options for handling sessions using backends like memcached, full support for PHP OPcache, faster admin menus, improvements on MS SQL and Maria DB and more.
